Elektra Virtual Museum
Oli
Sorenson
Oli Sorenson was born in Los Angeles in 1969. He lived in London between 1999 and 2010, where he launched his career as a VJ (video jockey), before taking part in numerous digital art festivals.
Greatly influenced by musical creation, Sorenson defines himself as a remix artist, using the strategies of citation, interpretation and Situationist détournement as expressive vectors. This way he revises the aesthetics of established artists by combining it with the features of popular culture, or even current event headlines, to produce new images, new narratives and materials.
After moving his studio to Montreal in 2010, he deployed a wide variety of techniques (drawing, painting, printing, video, eco-sustainable NFTs), to accommodate an ample production of physical and virtual objects.
In 2017, he completed his doctorate studies at Concordia University, and drafted the thesis entitled “The material conditions of immaterial art”.
